Carlos Prates has a hunch about why fans consider Michael Morales to have a better chance of beating Islam Makhachev . After the Russian defeated Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 , the Brazilian and the Ecuadorian entered the race for the next challenger position for the welterweight title (up to 77 kg). The smoker, however, believes he is better prepared to face the champion.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani, the Brazilian acknowledged Morales' physical strength, but highlighted his technical superiority over the Ecuadorian. Prates also stressed that his rival is not overrated and deserves credit for his performance so far. The smoker also pointed out that the 'spiderman's' invincibility and physical strength lead some fans to see him as having a greater chance of defeating Makhachev.

“He’s really heavy, but in terms of technique and things like that, I think I’m much better. He’s not overrated. He’s really good. He’s undefeated, but I think people believe he has a better chance of beating Islam because he’s stronger,” said Carlos Prates.

The Brazilian has already stated that the organization has signaled the possibility of putting him in a title fight, while the champion himself has shown enthusiasm for the idea of facing the smoker.
