Diego Lopes had the goal of competing in the next IBJJF Master World Championship, which will be held between September 3rd and 5th in Las Vegas (USA). However, the Brazilian revealed that he will no longer be able to participate in the competition. The Manaus native was preparing for the tournament, explained that he is close to finalizing his next UFC commitment and, therefore, will need to postpone his plans.

In a post on the 'VF Comunica Grappling' page on Instagram, last Monday (17), which asked how far the fighter could go in the tournament, Diego explained that he had to change his plans given the possibility of returning to the octagon soon.

"Unfortunately, I won't be able to compete anymore... I was training well. But I'm very close to finalizing my next fight. We'll have to wait a little longer," reported Diego Lopes.

The withdrawal comes just as the athlete is negotiating his next fight in the UFC. According to the fighter himself, talks are at an advanced stage to define his next opponent, which led him to prioritize his return to MMA at this time.

Initially, Diego Lopes was registered in the Master 1 division, lightweight (up to 76 kg), of the IBJJF World Championship. The competition would be an opportunity for the fighter to return to competing in a gi before resuming his MMA career.

Last Monday (17) in an interview with Ariel Helwani, Arman Tsarukyan revealed that he believes the UFC has already scheduled a fight between Diego Lopes and Charles do Bronx . In the Armenian's view, the Chute Boxe fighter would have preferred a duel against his compatriot.

A professional since 2012, the Manaus native has a record of 28 wins and eight losses, with 12 wins by knockout and 12 by submission. His most notable career achievements include victories over names like Jean Silva , Brian Ortega , Steve Garcia , and Dan Ige.
