During an appearance on the 'Pound 4 Pound' podcast, the former welterweight champion (up to 77kg) analyzed potential matchups against Makhachev and highlighted that his fighting style could pose a problem for the current champion. Usman acknowledged the quality of the division's newcomers, but stated that, considering the styles and dynamics of MMA, he believes he has the necessary tools to defeat the Russian.

“There are some really, really good guys coming up who are going to turn into killers. But, to be honest with you, considering all the styles I see and the math of MMA, how things work, I think: 'Hey, styles make fights.' I'm telling you I can do this (beat Islam Makhachev ),” said Kamaru Usman.
