Former champion doubles down and responds to Islam Makhachev in a debate

Max Holloway decided to double down in his feud with Islam Makhachev . After mocking the Russian for defending his welterweight title (up to 77 kg) at UFC 330 and celebrating his victory over Ian Machado Garry by also lifting the lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg), the Hawaiian was rebuffed by the champion and has now decided to respond to the provocation.

During a live stream on the Kick platform, Holloway appeared holding the featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) belt and the symbolic BMF. With the titles in hand, the former champion made a point of highlighting that he knows the weight of the belts well and countered Makhachev's provocation, stating that the Russian should not question his knowledge on the subject.

Although not considered a double champion like Islam Makhachev , Max Holloway is one of the few fighters who can boast a career full of achievements in the UFC. The Hawaiian won the interim featherweight title by defeating Anthony Pettis in December 2016, and later became the undisputed champion by unifying the titles against José Aldo in June of the following year.

Holloway defended the featherweight title three times before being dethroned by Alexander Volkanovski . However, his achievements didn't stop there. At the emblematic UFC 300 , held in April 2024, the Hawaiian became BMF champion by knocking out Justin Gaethje in the final second of the fight.

Later, Holloway defended his title as 'toughest fighter in the UFC' against Dustin Poirier , but was ultimately defeated by Charles Oliveira at UFC 326.
