Carlos Prates positions himself as a challenger to Islam Makhachev: 'I'm next'

Carlos Prates preferred not to let time pass and has already shown his intentions after Islam Makhachev 's victory over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 , held last Saturday (15), in Philadelphia (USA). The Brazilian positioned himself as the next challenger for the welterweight belt (up to 77,1 kg) and promised to bring the title to Brazil.

In an interview with Paramount's broadcast in Brazil, Prates stated that he intends to face the Russian soon and made it clear that he believes he is ready for the biggest challenge of his career. The São Paulo native is on a three-fight knockout winning streak and seeks to win the unprecedented title for the country.

"I'm next. With all due respect to Islam, but in a few months I'm going to get that belt and I promise I'll take it to Brazil," said Carlos Prates.

The Fighting Nerds athlete also analyzed Makhachev's style and pointed out what he considers a possible weakness in the champion's game. According to 'Pesadelo' (Nightmare), the Russian usually puts a lot of pressure on his opponents, but he can have difficulties when he fails to execute his fight plan.

"Islam is a guy who puts a lot of pressure on people, but when he can't, his mindset doesn't work so well. I'm eager, I'm ready to work," said Prates.

At 32 years old, Prates is one of the leading names in the UFC welterweight division. A native of Taubaté (SP), the Brazilian has a professional record of 24 wins and seven losses, with an impressive 19 knockout victories and three by submission, numbers that reinforce his reputation as a striker. A member of the Fighting Nerds team, 'Pesadelo' is experiencing a great phase in the organization, riding a wave of victories over names like Jack Della Maddalena , Leon Edwards , and Geoff Neal , establishing himself as one of the main contenders for the division's belt.
