Making his Ultimate debut, Eduardo Chapolin was defeated by Charles Johnson in the penultimate preliminary fight of UFC 330 , on Saturday night (15). With the result, the Brazilian, who participated in the Contender Series last year, had his streak of two consecutive victories ended. On the other hand, the American recovered from the defeat suffered against Asu Almabayev in June.

The two fighters began the fight cautiously, studying each other and switching stances in the center of the octagon. Johnson attempted a change of level and a takedown, but was thwarted by the Brazilian, who returned to his feet and landed strong low kicks. Comfortable in the fight, Chapolin began to exchange increasingly aggressive blows. At one point, the American claimed an eye poke that went unnoticed by the referee, prompting Eduardo to attack and connect with excellent strikes, including a cinematic takedown. At this moment, he landed an illegal knee strike, giving Johnson a few minutes to recover. Because of the foul, Chapolin lost a point.

The second round began cautiously, but the Brazilian clearly sought to be the aggressor, landing some good low kicks. Despite this, Johnson had some good moments landing punches as counter-attacks. However, everything changed after Eduardo landed a powerful left cross to his opponent's chin, taking him to the ground. Severely stunned, Charles managed to survive and even had a good finishing sequence, taking advantage of his opponent's fatigue.

The American returned for the third round feinting a lot and determined to pressure the Brazilian. He connected with straight punches and a powerful elbow, before hurting Chapolin with a front kick to the midsection. Eduardo tried to take the fight to the ground, but had his back controlled and found himself trapped in a rare Scottish twister, forcing the referee to stop the fight when the clock showed one minute and 36 seconds in the third round.
