Naturally, Garry openly expressed his love for Ireland, but at the same time, he made it clear that he doesn't mind people seeing him as Brazilian, ending the controversy. Furthermore, the UFC title challenger took the opportunity to praise four MMA legends produced by Brazil.

“If he wants to call me Brazilian, I’ll accept it without a problem. Brazilians have some of the best resumes in this sport. Brazilian UFC fans know that. We have Demian Maia , Charles do Bronx , Anderson Silva , José Aldo , legends of the sport. So, if he considers me Brazilian, I accept that with pride,” he said.

“But I was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. This fight, this is between me and him. It’s two of the greatest fighters on the planet facing off for the most important belt in the world. It’s the welterweight belt that’s at stake. He’s the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world and I’m the number one contender. This is the biggest fight of the year and I’m very prepared for it,” he concluded.
