Islam Makhachev doesn't seem willing to settle for the records he's already achieved in his career. Ahead of facing Ian Garry at UFC 330 next Saturday (15), in Philadelphia (USA), the Russian revealed a new goal to leave an even harder mark to surpass in the organization's history.
In an interview with the YouTube channel 'TMZ Sports', published this Thursday (13), Makhachev revealed that he intends to extend his winning streak and set an ambitious goal for the coming years. The welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg) seeks to defend the category's belt for the first time.

“I think we’ve already broken all the records. So maybe a streak of 20 wins would be a good idea. If we get to 20, I don’t think anyone will break that record,” said Islam Makhachev.
The Russian currently has 16 consecutive wins in the UFC, the same mark achieved by Anderson Silva . If he beats Ian Garry , Makhachev will take sole possession of the record for consecutive wins in the organization and could begin to build an even greater lead in the statistic.
The goal, however, goes beyond simply breaking the record. The fighter wants to reach 20 consecutive victories to establish a mark he considers practically unattainable and, thus, further solidify his name among the greatest in the history of the sport.

UFC 330 will feature a main event: the welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry . Beyond the title bout, the fight also revives a rivalry that marked one of the most emblematic periods in the organization's recent history: Russia versus Ireland.
A disciple of Khabib Nurmagomedov and the leading representative of the Dagestani fighting school today, Makhachev carries on the legacy left by the former undefeated lightweight champion. On the other side, Garry emerges as the main Irish star of the new generation and seeks to repeat the prominence that Conor McGregor brought to the country during his meteoric rise in the event.
Although lacking the personal rivalry that marked the historic confrontation between Khabib and McGregor, the duel puts Russia and Ireland back in the spotlight of the UFC. This time, in addition to national pride, the welterweight title and a prominent position at the highest level of the sport will be at stake.
