This Saturday (15), Islam Makhachev has a big commitment at UFC 330. In the main fight of the event that takes place in Philadelphia (USA), the welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg), faces Ian Garry , in another classic Russia vs Ireland in MMA. And, if it depends on the legend, the first title defense in the category will not be his last in the sport.

In an interview with the website 'MMA Junkie', Makhachev ruled out any possibility of retiring after the highly anticipated fight against Garry. It's true that the Russian has already admitted he's close to finishing his career and that he has few fights left in the sport.

That's precisely why a rumor suggesting that UFC 330 would mark the athlete's retirement gained traction. Aware of the speculation surrounding his future, Makhachev put an end to the controversy by making it clear that he continues to seek to expand his already enormous legacy in MMA.

“It seems someone spread a false rumor that I’m going to retire after this fight. No, that’s not true. I want to continue. You know that feeling of staying in shape, of becoming the best fighter? It’s incredible. You’ll never find anything like it outside of this sport. I want to keep fighting, break all the records, and stay here for many more years,” said the UFC champion.

Makhachev's history in MMA

Islam Makhachev , 34, is a UFC double champion and an MMA legend. With four successful title defenses, the Russian holds the record in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg). He began his career in the sport in 2010 and debuted in the UFC's biggest organization in 2015.

In this discipline, Khabib Nurmagomedov 's friend built a record of 28 wins and one loss. The welterweight champion's main victories were over Alexander Volkanovski (twice), Arman Tsarukyan , Charles Oliveira , Dustin Poirier , Jack Della Maddalena , and Renato Moicano.
