Glover Teixeira came close to exploiting a weakness in Jon Jones , but failed to notice it during the fight. In the duel held in April 2014, the Brazilian faced 'Bones' in his first attempt to win the UFC belt, but ended up being dominated by the American in a fight that could have had a different outcome if the then-champion had shown signs of pain.
During an appearance on the 'Overdogs Brasil' podcast, Glover revealed that he only discovered after the fight that he had hit a sensitive spot on Jones. According to the Brazilian, he couldn't find any openings during the fight and, at no point, did he feel like he was hurting his opponent. Later, the American commented on a kick that hit his rib, which was injured during the fight.
“The toughest fight I ever had was against Jon Jones , because it was the fight where I couldn't get close enough for him to say, 'I felt that.' But after the fight, he said, 'Did you know about my rib? Because you kicked me, and that kick hurt.' And I said, 'Man, if I had known… I only kicked once.' If I had known, I would have kicked more. But during the fight, I didn't see anything that showed I was hurting him,” said Glover Teixeira.
Glover also highlighted that, unlike other defeats in his career, he didn't perceive any reaction from Jon Jones that indicated any damage. According to the Brazilian, the impression during the fight was that his opponent was always one step ahead and could see everything that was happening in the octagon.
“In all the other fights I lost, I hit the guys and I could tell they felt it, but Jon Jones , no. I didn't think anything, it seemed like he was seeing everything,” concluded the former champion.
