Demian Maia is confident in Ian Garry 's chances against Islam Makhachev in the main event of UFC 330 , scheduled for next Saturday (15). The Irishman faces the Russian champion in a confrontation that pits distinct styles against each other and has been preparing intensely for his rival's grappling game, counting on the Brazilian's help in his preparation.
In a promotional video for the event, Demian Maia highlighted Garry's intelligence inside the octagon, emphasizing that the Irishman understands his main advantages well, such as his sharp striking and distance control. According to the veteran, these qualities put the athlete in a position to compete at a high level and even fight for the title.
“Ian is a very intelligent fighter. He understands that his most obvious advantage is his striking and distance control. That’s why he has the tools to be the champion,” said Demian Maia.

The former title challenger also analyzed the duel as a classic clash between a striker and a grappler. According to him, Garry has shown interest in evolving his ground game, seeking not only to defend himself but also to dominate opponents in that area.
“It’s a very simple fight. It’s a striker against a grappler. He said, ‘I want to be able to grapple and completely manipulate someone on the ground.’ He doesn’t want to feel like he has any weaknesses,” concluded the Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

Although Garry boasts a significant physical advantage, measuring 1,90m tall and 1,88m in reach compared to the champion's 1,78m in both measurements, the Russian holds a considerable advantage in his professional record with 28-1-0. The Irishman attempts to shock the world with a record of 17 wins and only one loss.
The technical matchup pits Garry's striking volume against Makhachev's relentless wrestling. The challenger lands an average of 4,78 significant strikes per minute compared to the champion's 2,45, but will need to test his 80% takedown defense. This is because Makhachev executes approximately 3,10 takedowns every 15 minutes with 56% accuracy, overwhelmingly controlling the action on the ground.
