Bruno Lopes was brutally knocked out by Diyar Nurgozhay in the first round during the penultimate preliminary fight of UFC Vegas 120 , in a bout valid for the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg). With the result, the Brazilian suffered his third consecutive defeat in the biggest MMA event on the planet, while the Kazakh fighter won his second consecutive match.

In a striking exchange, the two fighters employed different strategies in the initial round. Lopes started the fight dominating the center of the octagon and feinting extensively, attempting to induce his opponent into making a mistake. In contrast, Nurgozhay tried to establish distance with kicks and left hooks to the body. The fight then adopted a more studied pace, with the action being briefly paused after Bruno poked the opponent in the eye. However, everything changed from that point on.
Lopes switched to a southpaw stance and while attempting to attack, he was countered by a cross and went to the ground. Nurgozhay went on the offensive and landed powerful blows on the Brazilian, finishing the fight after connecting with another left cross against the cage. Although Bruno did everything possible to recover in time to survive the first round, the referee was forced to stop the fight when the clock showed four minutes and 59 seconds of the first round.
