Days after Anthony Smith 's arrest for an incident involving domestic violence and terrorist threats, Mikhala Renee Newman, the former wrestler's wife, came forward to explain the situation from her point of view. In a post on her social media earlier this week, she defended her husband and said that the whole situation had been blown out of proportion.
According to her official statement, as the victim of Smith, the decision to call the police was intended to protect the former athlete himself. The woman made a point of making clear her admiration for her partner, and also stated that she does not feel threatened by him.

Anyone who knows him can confirm that. They’ve turned a mental health issue into something it wasn’t. I’m safe and have always been safe. He would never hurt me. Never. On July 27th, the former UFC fighter and current commentator was arrested in Sarpy County, Nebraska, accused of domestic violence, causing serious bodily harm, making terrorist threats, and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. In an official statement released to the press, the prosecution reported that Smith allegedly argued with his partner, grabbed her, pushed her, and threatened to kill her. Investigators also alleged that the former UFC fighter attempted to run over his wife several times.
Smith was released from the Sarpy County jail after posting $500 bail (approximately R$2,5 million at the current exchange rate). Now on provisional release, the Prosecutor's Office has ordered the athlete to stay away from his wife and prohibited him from having any contact with her until the case is resolved.
Furthermore, 'Lionheart' will have to appear in Sarpy County District Court on August 17th. If the wrestler is convicted, he could face more than 20 years in prison.
