Islam Makhachev is open to new career challenges. Originally a grappling fighter, the Russian made history by becoming the UFC lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) and welterweight (up to 77 kg) champion. Now, the athlete is signaling an interest in exploring new territories and admits a desire to test himself in boxing as well.
In an interview with the website 'MMA Junkie', Makhachev revealed that he spoke with Turki Alalshikh, president of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia. According to the Dagestani fighter, the official showed interest in facilitating his transition to boxing in the future, opening the possibility of participating in projects linked to Zuffa Boxing, an organization associated with Dana White.

“He said, ‘When you’re ready for boxing, just let me know and we’ll do something.’ Yeah, why not? Box with some other fighters, why not?” said Islam Makhachev.

Before thinking about new challenges, Islam Makhachev has more pressing commitments ahead. The Russian is scheduled to face Ian Garry in the main event of UFC 330 , set for August 15th, in a fight where he will put his welterweight title on the line.
