Welterweight standout challenges Carlos Prates in the UFC title race: 'Why not?'

Carlos Prates has come under fire from one of his rivals in the race for the UFC welterweight title (up to 77 kg). Having not fought since May, when he knocked out Jack Della Maddalena , the Brazilian is still awaiting confirmation of his next fight, while his main target , Islam Makhachev , is scheduled to face Ian Garry at UFC 330 , set for August 15th.

Given the uncertain situation in the division, Sean Brady began to consider a fight against the smoker as a possible alternative to get closer to the title contention.

In an interview with the Home of Fight website, the American fighter assessed that a duel against Carlos Prates could be strategic for both athletes. In Brady's view, the confrontation would bring together two names in similar situations within the division, seeking an opportunity to return to the path to the title.

“There are only a few fights that make sense to put me back in title contention, and Prates is one of them. Right now, we’re both in odd positions in terms of division and where we are, so why not?” said Sean Brady.

Carlos Prates reached the top of the welterweight division (up to 77 kg) supported by an impressive record in the UFC. The Brazilian has seven wins in the organization, all achieved by knockout, a performance that has placed him among the top names in the category. This finishing power also made the São Paulo native the second-highest record holder in the number of knockdowns in the history of welterweights within the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Beyond his striking power, Prates stands out for the frequency with which he receives awards after his performances. In eight fights in the UFC, the Fighting Nerds representative has earned seven 'Performance of the Night' bonuses. The Brazilian also boasts impressive numbers in other areas, with over 54% accuracy on significant strikes and a 77% takedown defense.
