Charles Oliveira expressed confidence in Ian Garry 's chances against Islam Makhachev at UFC 330 , scheduled for August 15th. The Irishman faces the Russian in the main event, a fight that marks the champion's first title defense in the welterweight division (up to 77 kg). Despite acknowledging the high level and danger posed by the champion, the Brazilian believes his teammate possesses the necessary tools to pull off a surprise victory.

In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', Charles do Bronx pointed out that Ian Garry already knew he would be the next challenger and, since then, has been fully dedicated to preparing for the fight. The former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) also highlighted that the confidence is not based solely on friendship or team ties, but rather on the Irishman's performance in training.

“He knew he was next in line for the title. And he’s been completely focused on this matchup with Makhachev ever since. Ian really has a great chance of beating Makhachev. I’m not saying this because he’s my friend or because he’s part of our team, but because of what we’ve seen and the way he’s been training,” said Charles do Bronx.

Charles also made a point of praising Makhachev's qualities, describing him as an extremely tough opponent deserving of respect. However, he emphasized that Garry might have an advantage due to his strategic style, highlighting the fighter's ability to strictly follow the fight plan and adapt within the octagon.

“We know that on the other side there’s an extremely tough guy, someone who deserves all the respect in the world. He’s humble when promoting a fight, but he’s extremely difficult to deal with inside the octagon. He’s excellent, a very tough fighter. But, honestly, in my opinion, Ian has a great chance of winning because he’s a very strategic fighter and never abandons his fight plan,” concluded the blurred lion.

Islam Makhachev downplayed the partnership between Charles Oliveira and Ian Garry.

Despite having already faced Charles Oliveira in the UFC, Islam Makhachev isn't worried about what the Brazilian will bring to Ian Garry 's preparation . The Russian faced the Brazilian in the main event of UFC 280 and won by submission in the second round.
