One of the most anticipated fights of the 2026 season will take place at UFC 330. In the main event on August 15th in Philadelphia (USA), Islam Makhachev , the welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg), will defend his title for the first time against Ian Garry and is considered the favorite to win by bookmakers. However, this status does not worry Diego Lima, coach of both Charles Oliveira and the Irishman.
In an interview with the YouTube channel 'Portal do Vale Tudo', the leader of the Chute Boxe academy, Diego Lima, exuded confidence in Garry's victory and predicted it would be an impressive one. Known for his grappling skills and significant improvement in striking, Makhachev has become one of the most difficult fighters to beat.
In fact, the athlete holds the longest winning streak in UFC history (16), alongside Anderson Silva . In any case, Diego states that Garry will give Makhachev a completely different fight than he's used to and predicts a knockout, just as Adriano Martins surprised him in 2015. According to the coach, the Irishman is more than ready for the challenge.
“ I think Garry will connect and Makhachev will feel the blow . I think Garry will finish it . I believe so. Of course, a fight is a fight, but we take some parameters there. Take Garry's fight against Shavkhat. It was a setback, but Garry took his back, locked in the rear-naked choke, defended the takedowns, took him down, and the guy had phenomenal grappling,” said the coach.
“In the fight against Prates, his striking quality was outstanding. When he landed the uppercut, Prates was taken aback. In the fight against Belal, who trained extensively with Khabib's team and became champion, the pressure Garry applied, the number of strikes he landed and that Belal withstood, was incredible. So, Garry is becoming more and more versatile. Just look at his recent fights. 'Oh, but Garry won by points.' Look, the better the athletes are, the harder it is to knock them out or submit them, because the level rises.”
“ Garry is fighting at a high level . Now, the number of strikes he connects with, the variety is surreal. He has an incredible range of strikes. I strongly believe that Makhachev will get lost with the number of strikes he's preparing for this fight ,” he concluded.
