Jon Jones has once again spoken about one of the biggest controversies of his MMA career. The former UFC champion recalled the episodes involving anti-doping tests and again denied using steroids or any substance to improve his performance inside the octagon.
In an interview with ALF Global, the American stated that one of the positive results in anti-doping tests was due to a contaminated supplement. Jones declared that the amount found in his system was extremely small and that the identified substance would not have any physical enhancement effect.

“I have never used steroids. It was a supplement found in my body. It was proven to have come from a supplement company I used. The amount of the substance found in my body was so small that it took very expensive scientists to detect it. The supplement found in my body has no performance-enhancing effect,” stated Jon Jones.
'Bones' also refuted criticism from some in the MMA community, who question his results and associate his achievements with cases involving anti-doping tests. According to the American, the accusation that he used sophisticated methods to cheat the tests makes no sense.
“Fighters say, ‘ Jon Jones is an idiot, but he’s brilliant enough to use steroids and fool the UFC scientists.’ So, am I the idiot or a genius who somehow got away with using steroids?” the sports legend concluded.
Remember the Jon Jones case?
The first major incident occurred in 2015, before UFC 182, when Jones tested positive for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite of cocaine, in a test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission. However, the substance was not prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in out-of-competition tests, and the fighter received no sporting punishment for the result.
Even after the test results came back, Jones entered the octagon as normal against Daniel Cormier and won by unanimous decision, retaining the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg). Later, the American admitted to recreational use of the substance and stated that he had made a mistake.
The most controversial episode of Jones' career related to anti-doping occurred in 2017, after UFC 214. On that occasion, the fighter defeated Daniel Cormier again , this time by technical knockout in the third round, regaining the light heavyweight title. However, a test revealed the presence of turinabol, a metabolite of anabolic steroids, and the outcome of the fight was subsequently changed to "no contest".
