Canelo Alvarez spoke again about his fight against Terence Crawford, which took place last September. The Mexican recalled the unanimous decision loss and admitted that he entered the ring far from his best form, pointing to a lack of concentration as one of the main factors for the negative result.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani's YouTube channel, the former champion revealed that, despite having undergone intense preparation for the fight, he felt he wasn't fully focused on the challenge. According to Canelo, external factors during fight week ended up affecting his mental state, something he considers crucial in a fight of this level.

“I know what I did wrong… I did everything right in training, but my mind wasn’t there. I feel like I wasn’t present, thinking about other things. A lot of things happened during fight week. I did everything right in training,” stated Canelo Alvarez.
“I always train very hard, but it’s not just that. You can be physically prepared, but if your mind isn’t there, it’s not the same thing. Everything happened because my mind wasn’t there… I need to learn from what happened.”
Despite the negative result, Canelo stated that he does not intend to use external factors as an excuse and guaranteed that he intends to learn from the defeat. For the Mexican, the main adjustment for the next challenges does not involve the physical aspect, but the ability to arrive fully focused in the big moments.
“I’m not trying to play the victim or say ‘I should have done this.’ It’s already happened. I need to move on. I wasn’t doubting myself, but I simply feel like I wasn’t present. It’s a very strange feeling,” the former champion added.
The loss to Crawford marked one of the most important moments in Canelo's career in recent years. The duel pitted two of the greatest boxers of the generation against each other, with the American expanding his legacy in the sport and maintaining his undefeated record of 42 wins and no losses.
