Ian Garry is focused on the biggest challenge of his career, but the Irishman's confidence goes beyond the fight against Islam Makhachev . The welterweight (up to 77,1 kg) revealed that he is already thinking about a possible first title defense if he wins the title at UFC 330 , scheduled for August 15 in Philadelphia.
In an interview on the High Performance podcast, Garry stated that part of his competitive mindset is imagining the next steps even before achieving his goals. The fighter highlighted that he already has potential opponents in mind for a possible debut as champion of the division.

“I’m already thinking about who I want to face. I think you need to think about all these things. So, when I’m on the microphone right after the fight for an interview, I’ll be ready. I’ve already dreamed, thought, understood what I want to do next, and it’s already inside me. It’s this competitive nature, this competitive spirit that fuels me,” revealed Ian Garry.
The duel against Makhachev will be the Irishman's first challenge in a UFC title fight. The fighter comes into the fight in good form and is betting on his movement and striking game to try and prevent the Russian from imposing his traditional dominance on the ground.
On the other side, the Russian seeks to extend his reign and consolidate his position in the welterweight division after moving up a weight class and achieving another historic goal in the organization. The champion is considered one of the most complete athletes on the roster and arrives as one of the biggest tests of Garry's career.

Ian Garry , 28, is one of the leading names in the new generation of welterweights and currently holds a prominent position in the division. Known for his technical style, great reach, and confidence inside the octagon, the Irishman is establishing himself as one of the most dangerous fighters in the division.
The athlete began his professional MMA career in 2019 and debuted in the UFC in 2021. Throughout his career, "The Future" has built a record of 17 wins and one loss. Among his main triumphs are victories over Carlos Prates , Belal Muhammad , Michael Page , Geoff Neal , and Daniel Rodriguez . Before joining the UFC, Garry won the Cage Warriors welterweight title.

UFC 330 will feature a main event: the welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry . Beyond the title bout, the fight also revives a rivalry that marked one of the most emblematic periods in the organization's recent history: Russia versus Ireland.
A disciple of Khabib Nurmagomedov and the leading representative of the Dagestani fighting school today, Makhachev carries on the legacy left by the former undefeated lightweight champion. On the other side, Garry emerges as the main Irish star of the new generation and seeks to repeat the prominence that Conor McGregor brought to the country during his meteoric rise in the event.
Although lacking the personal rivalry that marked the historic confrontation between Khabib and McGregor, the duel puts Russia and Ireland back in the spotlight of the UFC. This time, in addition to national pride, the welterweight title and a prominent position at the highest level of the sport will be at stake.
