Dricus Du Plessis has expressed his complete opposition to the possibility of Khamzat Chimaev receiving an immediate rematch against Sean Strickland . The Chechen was defeated by the American in the main event of UFC 328 by judges' decision, a result that, in the South African's view, puts him a step behind in the title race.

In an interview with 'Submission Radio', the former champion highlighted that neither of the fighters has recent title defenses that would justify another direct confrontation. Du Plessis emphasized that, unlike them, he has already defended his belt twice and described the possibility of a rematch between the two as meaningless.

“Sean and Khamzat, there’s no title defense. I defended my belt twice against Strickland and Adesanya. A rematch between Strickland and Khamzat is ridiculous. It makes no sense at all. If they do it, it’s ridiculous. It’ll be crazy, but let them do what they want,” said Dricus Du Plessis.

Even coming off a loss in his last fight, the South African adopted a cautious tone when speaking about his current form. According to him, the focus is on getting back to winning and letting his performance inside the octagon speak for itself. Du Plessis also reinforced that he intends to prove his worth again in his next fight, demonstrating why he believes he is the best in the world.

“I’m simply going to fight to come back, after my performance, I’ll let it speak for itself. At the moment, I have nothing to say. I can’t really say much because I was defeated in my last fight, so I can’t say too much. But my fight is in a few days, and I’ll speak in there. I’ll prove once again why I’m the best in the world,” concluded the South African.

Although focused on earning another title shot, Dricus Du Plessis has a more immediate commitment ahead. The former champion is scheduled to face Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC Oklahoma.
