Max Holloway admitted that he was surprised by Conor McGregor during the UFC 329 press conference . In the traditional face-off held on Thursday (9), the Irishman took the Hawaiian's glasses and threw them on the ground , before delivering a strong slap to his hand. According to Holloway, the situation could have been avoided if he hadn't trusted his rival's posture.

In an interview during the weigh-in broadcast, Holloway revealed that he believed McGregor's attitude when they approached, but ended up being surprised by his opponent's reaction, acknowledging that he fell for the provocation.

“I really liked those sunglasses, damn… then he said, ‘Let’s go, we’re cool.’ I went to shake his hand and then he slapped my hand. I fell for it, he got me there,” said Max Holloway.

Known as one of the biggest names in MMA, Conor McGregor hasn't stepped into the octagon since June 2021, when he suffered a shin fracture in a fight against Dustin Poirier . Since then, the Irishman has dedicated himself to other projects and even had a fight scheduled against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in 2024, but ended up withdrawing from the event due to injury.

Now, McGregor returns to action after a five-year hiatus to face Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329.
