Khamzat Chimaev 's defeat continues to reverberate in the MMA world. This time, Jon Jones analyzed the former champion's current situation . Considered one of the greatest names in the sport's history, the American commented on 'The Wolf's' recent setback and pointed out what changes he believes are necessary to put him back in contention for the UFC belt.
In an interview with the YouTube channel Red Corner MMA, Jones assessed Chimaev's defeat to Sean Strickland , suffered in the main event of UFC 328 in May. For the former light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) and heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) champion, acknowledging one's own mistakes is the first step to returning to the top of the organization.

Jones directed his advice to Chimaev, who lost the middleweight title (up to 83,9 kg) to the American by split decision. In the UFC legend's view, 'The Wolf' needs to use this moment to correct specific deficiencies in his game, mainly in physical conditioning and defense in ground fighting situations.
“If I were Khamzat, I would work on my weaknesses. Maybe I would change my resistance training routine and spend more time on my back on the floor,” declared the American.
Jon Jones ' statement reinforces the perception that, despite the defeat, Khamzat Chimaev remains among the top names in the middleweight division. At 32 years old, the fighter appears as one of the main candidates for another title shot, but he will need to show improvement, especially in the aspects highlighted by Jones, to get back on track towards the category's title.

The match between the fighters took place in the main event of UFC 328 and delivered one of the most balanced fights of the year. From the opening minutes, the Chechen fighter struggled to impose his wrestling against the American's solid takedown defense and high volume of strikes.
After five intense rounds, Strickland won by split decision and regained the middleweight title. The result ended Chimaev's reign, returned the title to the new champion, and opened the way for a possible rematch between the two in the future.
