EXCLUSIVE: Renato Moicano bets on Durinho's success as a businessman, but warns: 'He could suffer a lot'

This Saturday (23), in São Paulo, Renato Moicano He will be present at Money Moicano MMA 1 and is excited, but not as a fighter. The ninth-ranked UFC lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) will act as an executive, as he is the creator of the league. And who else will play a different role in combat sports is... Gilbert Durinho, who retired in April. Knowing his friend like few others, the Brazilian gave his opinion on his future outside the octagon.

After hanging up his gloves, Durinho revealed that he will focus on his career as a manager, relying on his knowledge of the fighting world and his extensive network of contacts. “I think he’s going to be much better (compared to Ali Abdelaziz). I don’t know if he’ll reach the same position, the same status as Ali, who is a very well-connected guy, but Durinho is a family man, a man of his word. What he promises to the athletes, he will do. If he says he’s going to do it, he will do it,” said the UFC lightweight top fighter.

That's why it's an area I don't want to be in. I've even been asked if I wanted to be a manager, but I don't. You know why? I used to be an athlete who needed a manager, and managers lie a lot. Their job is to lie to the athlete, to promise, to say it's going to happen. I know that sometimes it's not even the manager's fault. In the UFC, to keep a client, you always have to be promising things.”

“You have to do this, and I don’t want to. I don’t like promising anything to others, giving my word, saying I’ll do it and then being in that situation with the athletes. I don’t know how Durinho will handle this. What I can tell you about Durinho is that I think he will fulfill his promise, but I think he will suffer a lot in this profession,” he concluded.
