CONTINUES AFTER ADVERTISING:

Mica Galvão, one of the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu, finally broke his silence and spoke for the first time about the case of Melqui Galvão, his father and renowned coach. In April, the professional was arrested in Manaus on suspicion of sexual crimes against minors. Without wasting time, the prodigy of the gentle art announced the end of the acclaimed 'BJJ College' team and the creation of his own team, but changed his mind about the latter. Frankly, the athlete admitted that he acted hastily and turned his attention to what really matters.

Last Wednesday (6), on his official 'Instagram' account, Mica, visibly shaken by the situation, made a long statement, in which he cancelled the launch of his 'Mika Jiu-Jitsu' team and, in a beautiful gesture, offered help to the victims of the case that fell like a bomb on combat sports and shook the reputation of his father and the image of the traditional modality. The athlete's initial idea was to completely distance himself from the BJJ College brand, led by Melqui, who continues to be investigated after the allegations.

But while he had the support of many to turn things around, Mica was also criticized because, in the understanding of a large portion of the fans and professionals of the sport, the focus should not be on him and using the case to promote a new team, but rather on the younger athletes and their families. Therefore, showing his ethics and humility, the jiu-jitsu star offered his solidarity and, even though his father is the protagonist of the sad episode, made it clear that he will help those who felt harmed by his actions. To date, there are seven complaints against Melqui.

“I wanted to apologize to everyone for the time I was absent, secluded, to be close to my family. I have two things to say. The first thing: as everyone knows, jiu-jitsu has always been a part of my life, I think it still is a big part of my life, but, thinking about the situation of how our whole team became destabilized, I think it basically shut down,” said the athlete.

“I kind of wanted this responsibility of taking on and carrying the team with me, because I saw the families, the athletes, everyone needing a place to train, and I wanted to take it on and start a project from scratch, but with everything that happened, it became totally unfeasible. It won't be possible to continue with the project.”

"Secondly: regarding the victims, I wanted to express my solidarity with them, to say that if they need me, I am here to support them, if they need help with anything, within my possibilities, I am making myself available. I believe in Justice. I know it's a delicate moment, but everything will work out."

“I also wanted to say that I don’t rule out the possibility of, in the future, perhaps someday having a brand, a gym, but for now, I believe it’s not the right time. Right now, the focus is more on taking care of my family, and that’s it. I just wanted to share this message with everyone who follows me because I think they needed an answer. I just needed a little time to think. Thank you,” he concluded.
