Amid the national repercussions of the allegations, Melqui Galvão's defense team issued a statement following the arrest of the jiu-jitsu coach. occurred last Tuesday (28)in Manaus. The 47-year-old professional came under investigation on suspicion of rape of a vulnerable person, sexual harassment, threats and invasion of an electronic device. The statement was made on Saturday (2), through an official note sent by the lawyer in the case.

The investigation began after a 17-year-old girl reported to the police that she had been abused during an international trip to compete. According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat, two other possible victims have been identified, one of whom reported having been abused when she was 12 years old. The case is being handled by the 8th Women's Defense Police Station.

In addition to the testimonies, experts are also analyzing materials presented by the families, such as audio recordings and messages that could indicate possible evidence of the practices under investigation. The temporary arrest warrant was issued by the São Paulo court for a period of 30 days.

According to information released by Folha de S.Paulo, the defense denied the accusations and stated that the coach is cooperating with the authorities while awaiting the progress of the investigations. This statement came after the case gained notoriety, especially following the emergence of reports from alleged victims.

"The defense reiterates that Melquisedeque Galvão remains at the disposal of the competent authorities. It trusts in the proper functioning of the institutions and awaits the complete clarification of the facts," stated lawyer Átila Machado in an official note.

The defense also highlighted that the coach has a positive work history, having worked for years in public safety, training, self-defense, and instruction, always with dedication to public service and fulfilling the duties inherent to the position.

Melqui Galvão, who also works as a civil police officer in Amazonas and has a history of developing athletes in Jiu-Jitsu, has had his public duties suspended as a precautionary measure. The state's Civil Police reported that it has opened administrative proceedings to investigate the facts, as well as to investigate possible irregularities in his professional activities outside the state.
