Away from the octagon since November 2025, when he became the world welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg), Islam makhachev announced this Wednesday afternoon (29) that he has already started preparing for his return to the world's most famous octagon to finally defend the category's crown for the first time. In the video, the reigning champion said that the initial part of his training corresponds to physical conditioning, more specifically weightlifting. This would be a way to take the first steps towards improving his cardiovascular and muscular fitness.

“Yes, it has started (preparation). I always do at least one camp a year, which is for conditioning. So, when I have a window of time, I get the team together and come here to lift weights,” he stated, then confirming that the training is still in an initial stage.
