The arrest of Melqui Galvão generated repercussions in the world of combat sports and provoked an immediate response from the Brazilian Confederation of Sport Jiu-Jitsu (CBJJE). Following the allegations and the arrest warrant involving the coach this Tuesday (28)The organization announced its immediate withdrawal from all activities related to the confederation.
Melqui Galvão, a well-known name in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene and father of Mica Galvão, one of the leading athletes in the sport today, was arrested in Manaus after a court in São Paulo issued a 30-day temporary arrest warrant.
According to information released by the BNC Amazonas portal, the 47-year-old coach turned himself in to the authorities and is now being investigated on suspicion of threats, rape of a vulnerable person, sexual harassment, and unauthorized access to an electronic device. The accusations involve an alleged overstepping of the boundaries of the relationship between coach and students.

In an official statement, the CBJJE (Brazilian Confederation of Jiu-Jitsu) reinforced that it does not tolerate any form of abuse or harassment within Jiu-Jitsu and highlighted the need to preserve a safe, respectful, and trustworthy environment for athletes, teachers, and practitioners of the sport.
"In light of the allegations and the arrest warrant involving Professor Melqui Galvão, we reaffirm: there is no place for abuse or harassment in Jiu-Jitsu. The professor has been removed from all activities of the confederation. We stand in solidarity with the victims, wishing them strength, support, and justice."
"More than reacting, we are acting, with actions, training, and protocols to guarantee respect and safety in the sport. The mat must be a space of trust for everyone. Silence does not represent us. Action does!", says the CBJJE via Instagram.

To date, Melqui Galvão's defense has not made a public statement on the case. It is important to note that the coach is under investigation and there has not yet been a final judicial conviction.
