The combat sports community was surprised in a very unpleasant way this Tuesday (28). Melqui Galvão, renowned jiu-jitsu coach and father of Mica Galvão, star of the sport, was arrested in Manaus on suspicion of sexual crimes against minors. The information was released by the website 'BNC Amazonas'.
According to the website, Melquisedeque de Lima Galvão Ferreira, 47, turned himself in to authorities after a São Paulo court ordered his temporary arrest for 30 days. He is accused of making threats (possibly based on intimidation), rape of a vulnerable person (sexual act involving a minor under 14 years of age or a vulnerable person), sexual harassment (performing a lewd act without consent), and hacking into an electronic device, exceeding the limits of the relationship between coach and students.

To date, Melqui's defense has not publicly commented on the incident. However, fans and jiu-jitsu professionals wasted no time in deeply lamenting what happened, showing solidarity with the potential victims. In any case, it's important to note that the coach is being accused, meaning he has not been convicted. The case remains under police investigation.
