Last Saturday (18), in Canada, Gilbert Durinho He ended his 14-year MMA career, but that wasn't his ideal plan for his farewell. The 39-year-old Brazilian, a former welterweight title challenger (up to 77,1 kg), made no secret of it and revealed that his wish was to retire on a high note, that is, with a completely different career scenario and location.
Frankly, Durinho explained that his goal was to have his retirement fight in Brazil and mentioned who was on his radar. But, to achieve that outcome, the veteran would have to win. Mike Malott and another fight, which was projected to be against Colby covington at UFC 329 in July. Therefore, envisioning two consecutive wins, the Brazilian listed his final opponent as... Daniel Rodriguez, Kevin holland ou Leon edwards.

And Durinho's choice makes sense, given that the athletes mentioned are veterans. In fact, at his peak, the Brazilian exchanged taunts with the Englishman, a former champion in the category. However, after suffering his fifth consecutive defeat and with the UFC having no plans to hold events in Brazil, the athlete opted to bring forward his retirement, leaving home.
“I had a complete plan. If I had beaten Malott, I would have challenged Covington for International Fight Week. I think the UFC would have given me that fight. Then, maybe I would have a farewell fight in Brazil. That was my plan,” said the former title challenger in an interview with the website. 'MMA Fighting'.
“If everything went right, it would be the fight against Covington and then the farewell fight against Rodriguez, Holland or Edwards in Brazil. That's what I was thinking. But, deep down, I thought that if I couldn't beat Malott, if I got knocked out, I would be finished,” he concluded.
