On a collision course with Jiri Prochazka in the main event of UFC 327, Carlos Ulberg needs just one more win to reach the top of the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg). However, the New Zealander has another big goal besides beating the Czech. During media day on Wednesday (8), the third ranked fighter in the category showed himself willing to face Alex Poatan in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg).

According to the fighter, after winning the crown against Prochazka, the natural next step would be to move up a weight class and face the Brazilian.
“Eventually, definitely (moving up in weight). The main goal is to win that title, keep it for as long as I can, and after proving myself in the light heavyweight division, then I would go after the heavyweight belt,” Ulberg stated.

Although the fight with Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title (up to 120,2 kg) has already been officially announced as the co-main event of UFC Casa Branca , the light heavyweight title (up to 93 kg) will only officially become vacant when Prochazka and Ulberg face each other.
A title in Ulberg's hands could reignite an old rivalry with Poatan.

With only one loss on his professional record, Carlos Ulberg is a training partner of Israel Adesanya , so a fight with the Brazilian could involve elements of Poatan's old rivalry with the Nigerian. Had he not transitioned to heavyweight, the New Zealander would be the leading contender to face the two-time Glory champion.
