According to the “ESPN Brasil” channel website, the fighter said that his contract with Corinthians ended on November 1st. Cigano, however, was confident in renewing the sponsorship. “Corinthians once, Corinthians always. My contract expired, and due to the club's (financial) situation we are in negotiations. It hasn't come out yet, I hope that happens. We are still in talks for renewal,” he declared.

Corinthians began investing in MMA in 2011, when it signed a contract with Anderson Silva, then UFC middleweight champion and declared Timão fan. A year later, it was Cigano's turn, at the time holder of the heavyweight title, to sign his agreement with the São Paulo team. With both contracts ended, the current leader of the Brazilian Championship and increasingly closer to his sixth national title, is out of the largest MMA organization on the planet.
