With his next fight set, Carlos Prates' main objective is a convincing victory, and he has already started his training camp. The Brazilian, who faces Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Perth on May 2nd in Australia, knows that a high-impact win against the former welterweight champion (up to 77 kg) could bring him ever closer to a title shot.

In a video shared on his Instagram profile, 'Fumante' showed great dedication right from the start of his training to face 'JDM'. During training, Prates dedicated time to mitt work and grappling. Dripping with sweat, the Brazilian also invested part of his preparation on an air bike, a device that stimulates both upper and lower body limbs simultaneously. The athlete also left a message for his fans, excitedly announcing his return to the octagon.

"The most exciting welterweight in the world is back. Heading to Australia, into enemy territory, to pursue my title shot," said the athlete from the Fighting Nerds academy.

After captivating the MMA world with four knockouts in the 2024 season, Carlos Prates suffered his first Ultimate loss in April 2025 when he faced Ian Garry at UFC Kansas City . However, 'The Smoker' recovered by knocking out Geoff Neal and Leon Edwards at UFC 319 and UFC 322, respectively. Currently, the Fighting Nerds representative occupies the fifth position in the welterweight rankings.

The Australian is coming off a loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322, where he lost the division's belt to the Russian. With 18 wins and three losses in his professional record, Jack Della Maddalena has eight wins in the UFC and was undefeated in Dana White's organization before facing Makhachev.
