The two fighters began the fight studying each other. While Reyes tried to use his superior reach to work straight punches, Silva feinted a lot and looked for the best time to connect with his strikes. With this strategy, the Brazilian landed a powerful right straight that sent the Venezuelan to the ground.
Confident, he risked a spinning kick to the head and began to corner his opponent. After using a few minutes to recover, Reyes returned the favor by knocking the Paraense fighter down with a right cross. On the ground, he punished his rival and even threatened him with a rear-naked choke at times.
Douglas managed to defend the submission attempts, but then began to be hit with strong, unanswered punches. In this scenario, referee Herb Dean was forced to stop the fight literally in the last second of the first round, much to the displeasure of the Paraense fighter, who criticized him after the stoppage.
