When he performed for the European event “Cage Warriors”, Conor McGregor, current interim UFC champion and the Brazilian's main rival José Aldo, was simultaneously champion of the featherweight and lightweight divisions. About to challenge Aldo to unify the titles in the under-66 kg category, McGregor, however, is unlikely to remain at this weight for long. At least that's what the Irishman's training partner and Ultimate welterweight Gunnar Nelson says.

“He cuts a lot of weight, he doesn’t like it and I don’t think he’ll do it for much longer. I think he will move up a category. He wants to go up. I don't blame him. I wouldn't be able to cut that much so many times. It definitely takes something away from you, there’s no doubt”, said the Icelander, in an interview with “Submission Radio”.

Despite the concern, however, Nelson does not believe the weight cut will be a problem for McGregor against Aldo. “He has a lot of energy, he will toughen up and fight very well even with this cut. I just think, looking ahead, that this is not good for his health. I don't think he should do this many more times and I've told him that. That's my opinion. That's not good for the athletes in this sport, it's not good for their health, it's not good for the brain and I don't see any reason why we have to do that. I think we should get rid of this quickly”, criticized the Icelander.

Just like the companion Conor McGregor, which faces José Aldo on December 12th in Las Vegas (USA). Gunnar Nelson will also be part of the UFC 194 card. The Icelandic from the Straight Blast Gym (SBG Ireland) team will face the Brazilian Demian Maia in a duel between two of the greatest jiu-jitsu specialists in MMA today.
