Hendo reveals that he asked the UFC for a fight with Belfort

Veteran says he never chooses his opponents, but this time, he asked for a trilogy with Belfort to take place in the United States

Dan Henderson He is the oldest active UFC athlete, at 45 years old, and has a career spanning almost two decades in MMA. Even so, the American said he did something he had never done in the sport until then: he chose his next opponent, in this case, Vitor belfort.

Henderson and Belfort have already faced each other twice, with one victory for each side. The veteran then asked for the show to take place in the United States, but was partially granted.

“Actually, I never do this, but I asked for this fight. I told Dana [White, UFC president] and Lorenzo [Fertitta, UFC partner] that this was what I wanted. I wanted it to happen in the United States, but they gave me the fight and said it would have to happen in Brazil. So, let’s go,” he explained, in an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.

Concerned about Belfort's history with controversial anti-doping tests, Henderson showed confidence in the UFC's new program with USADA, the North American Anti-Doping Agency. “I can only put my hope and faith in USADA. Having competed in the Olympics, I am quite familiar with USADA and WADA [World Anti-Doping Agency], so I hope they maintain the same standards in MMA,” he analyzed.

Henderson and Belfort will be in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 77, an event that will take place on November 7th at Ginásio do Ibirapuera, in São Paulo (SP).
