While Alex Poatan awaits his chance to fight for the heavyweight title (up to 120,2 kg), Waldo Cortes-Acosta emerges as a contender willing to jump the queue and accelerate the division's definition. Riding a three-fight win streak in just two months, the heavyweight known as "Salsa Boy" has publicly advocated for the creation of an interim title, considering the uncertainty surrounding the return of the current champion, Tom Aspinall.

In an interview with 'Hablemos MMA', the heavyweight made it clear that, if he is not scheduled for UFC Mexico , he would welcome a fight against Alexander Volkov or Ciryl Gane for the interim title. According to Cortes-Acosta, Aspinall's absence opens up an opportunity for the UFC to keep the division active, pitting fighters ready to compete against each other.

“If I don’t fight at UFC Mexico , I want to face Volkov or Ciryl Gane . I think Tom Aspinall won’t fight anytime soon, so why not put an interim belt on the line? Many fighters aren’t ready, and when they’re making decisions, they need athletes who are ready to fight. I’m always ready to fight. They know that,” said Waldo Cortes-Acosta.
