Daniel Cormier received good news this Friday (23): his arch-rival Jon Jones was reinstated to the UFC squad and is ready to return to fights. Thus, Cormier, the organization's current light heavyweight champion, has an open path to avenge his only defeat in MMA, which occurred in January of this year when he was trying to win the title.

Naturally, Cormier celebrated the news and acknowledged that the UFC will benefit from the return of Jones, champion of the 93-pound division between 2011 and 2015. “Congratulations to Jon “Bones” Jones for returning to the UFC. For MMA fans, this is a good day. A guy who proved to be one of the best fighters of all time is back. As a competitor, he couldn't have had any other result and this is the best news I've heard in a long time. Jon said the right things and his actions are proving his words. I hope this is the last time we have to deal with something like this,” Cormier said in a press release.
The current champion has made it clear that he wants Jones to be his next opponent in the Octagon. “As a fan, you must want to see two of the best fighters compete against each other. With that said, I can't wait to compete against him again.”
Jones and Cormier faced each other in January of this year, with the former winning by unanimous decision from the judges. Afterwards, Jones would defend his title against Anthony Johnson, but was involved in a controversial traffic accident and fled without providing assistance to a victim, a pregnant woman.
As a result, Jones was suspended from fighting and had his belt taken away. Cormier was chosen to face Johnson for the vacant belt, and won.
