Joseph Duffy declared that he was “devastated” by the injury that took him out at short notice from the main fight of UFC Fight Night 76, an event that will take place this Saturday (24) in Dublin, Ireland.

The local athlete, who would face Dustin poirier in a five-round duel, he did not receive medical clearance for the fight. According to Duffy's trainer, Firas Zahabi, on the “MMA Fighting” website, the Irishman suffered a mild head concussion after being knocked out in training last Saturday night (17). Therefore, the doctors chose not to release him to fight.
In a message published on his Instagram account, Duffy expressed his feelings and apologized to Poirier, his fans and his friends. “Obviously I’m devastated. I really wanted this fight and I felt in shape in training. First of all, I want to apologize profusely to Dustin. We both worked hard to prepare for the fight. He's a great fighter and I hope to have another chance to face him. Apologies to all my fans, friends and family who planned to come see me fight and who supported me the entire time. Even though it's hard to think about anything other than disappointment, I can't wait to have another fight scheduled. I hope to be in the octagon as soon as possible,” he declared.
With the loss, the UFC promoted the duel between flyweights Paddy Holohan and Louis Smolka to the main fighting post in Dublin. However, due to the proximity of the fight, the duel will be played over three rounds, and not five, as happens in the main fights of each event.
