In recent days, the news that the UFC could fire almost 10% of its fighter roster has shaken the MMA backstage. Apparently, the organization has already carried out the first part of the “resignation package”, which could see up to 50 athletes cut in the coming days, and five Brazilian fighters are part of the list.

According to the “UFC Fighters Info” website, which publishes and updates the organization's roster of athletes, no less than 17 fighters have left Ultimate, including the following Brazilians: Leonardo Macarrão, Hernani Perpétuo, Vagner Rocha, Ivan Batman and William Patolino.

In addition to the five Brazilians, other important athletes were also excluded by the organization, such as TUF champion Amir Sadollah and Japanese veteran Naoyuki Kotani. The other members of the list of 17 names are: TJ Waldburger, Luke Zachrich, Chris Clements, David Michaud, Pawel Pawlak, Ron Starlings, Joe Merrit, Roger Zapata and Lewis Gonzalez.

The list of 17 names is considered the first part as it only includes athletes from the lightweight category upwards, which corresponds to the divisions under the responsibility of the matchmakers Joe Silva, who had already announced some layoffs in the last week. Thus, there would still be more names left from the featherweight, bantamweight, flyweight, women's bantamweight and women's strawweight divisions, whose work of combining fights is the responsibility of Sean Shelby.
