“We discovered that I was eating a lot of venison, because I love venison and it has a lot of protein. I wanted to get more muscular for the fight, precisely to make it easier to cut weight”, explained the athlete, in an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
Hendricks, however, recognizes that the blame is entirely his own. “It's my fault and I know it. I've cut weight my entire life, so I know how to do it. But nothing like this had ever happened. We did some research afterwards to understand, and I wish we had done it sooner, but now it's easy to say,” he continued.
Despite the persistent problems, the former champion confirmed that he will continue trying to fight at 77 kg. “I want to give everything I can to be a welterweight. That’s why I’m doing the right things, that’s why I’ve been paying so much attention to this, because I want to get back to where I was,” he concluded.
