Anderson Silva praises 'legend' Woodley after boxing knockout on Netflix and reveals sadness.

Anderson Silva delivered another cinematic knockout in his career. In the boxing event broadcast live on Netflix and which took place last Friday (19), in Miami (USA), the Brazilian 'knocked out' Tyron Woodley in the second round, delighting fans. As could not be otherwise, the MMA legend celebrated the beautiful victory, but did not forget the importance of the defeated side.

Anderson made a point of praising the American who, despite the tough defeat, played an important role in the duel and in his career. Originally, the Brazilian was supposed to have a trilogy against Chris Weidman in boxing, but Weidman withdrew due to an injury shortly before the fight. Therefore, 'The Spider' was only able to continue with the event because Woodley took on the commitment at the last minute.

Therefore, Anderson thanked the athlete, a wrestling specialist, for putting himself at risk to face him in the duel between former UFC champions without having the proper preparation time. Precisely for this reason, the Brazilian expressed his concern for Woodley and even revealed some sadness after knocking him out, since Woodley fell badly in the ring.

“I think Woodley didn’t have much time to prepare for this fight, but he’s a great fighter. A lot of people don’t give him the credit he deserves because they don’t see how hard we work in this sport. Combat sports are very brutal. Woodley is an incredible fighter, a legend. People need to respect him,” the veteran said at the post-show press conference.

“I just thanked him for accepting the fight. Because when you step into the ring you go in to win, but we have families. Of course I’m happy, but on the other hand, I’m a human being and I’m a little sad, because it’s a fight, but it’s very difficult,” the veteran concluded.

After leaving the UFC, 50-year-old Anderson Silva transitioned to boxing and, despite his advanced age for competition, continues to excel in combat sports. In the ring, the former UFC middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) defeated Julio César Chávez Jr. and shone by knocking out Tito Ortiz and Tyron Woodley . On the other hand, the Brazilian was ultimately defeated by Jake Paul in boxing.

Another defeat for Woodley

Since leaving the UFC, 43-year-old Tyron Woodley has struggled in boxing. In total, the former welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg) has had three fights in the traditional sport and lost them all. The veteran suffered two defeats to Jake Paul and one to Anderson Silva.
