According to the athlete, there is no fear on his part in approaching the fight in striking. In an interview with 'Sky Sports' last Thursday (18), he stated that he does not see great technical skills in the American, who has 19 knockout victories.

“People laugh at me when I say I’m going to trade blows with him, but I will. They think I’m going to go for a takedown in the first ten seconds, but I’m not. I’m going to trade punches with him and I’m going to go on the offensive. He’s more of a boxer with low kicks, and I’m an MMA striker,” he stated.

At 37 years old and admittedly approaching the last fight of his career, Gaethje has two wins and two losses by submission as a professional fighter. Both of those losses occurred in fights for the UFC undisputed title, against Khabib Nurmagomedov through a triangle and Charles of the Bronx, with a rear naked choke.
