Tom Aspinall is at the beginning of his reign as UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg), but he's already thinking beyond that and, curiously, outside the company. Irritated by the way he was treated by fans and Dana White after receiving an illegal eye poke from Ciryl Gane during their fight in October in Abu Dhabi (UAE), the Englishman revealed his desire to make a significant career change.

Aspinall has publicly expressed interest in competing in boxing against Francis Ngannou , one of the UFC president's biggest rivals. It's true that, at the moment, the Englishman has an exclusive contract with the company, which makes a transition to boxing impossible. However, the heavyweight champion suggests that renewing the contract won't be easy and that the superfight against the Cameroonian star could be a priority.

“I could have some fights, not exhibition fights, but important fights against a big name or something like that. I wouldn’t mind boxing against an MMA fighter. I think fighting Ngannou would be good. I have UFC fights to do first,” the champion said on his official YouTube channel.

Aspinall and boxing

Tom Aspinall 's statement is hardly surprising. It's worth remembering that, before focusing on MMA, the Englishman dedicated himself to boxing and jiu-jitsu. Furthermore, the fighter's father stirred controversy by revealing that, if it were up to him, Tom wouldn't renew his UFC contract and would instead switch to jiu-jitsu in search of big fights and lucrative pay.
