Weeks after the announcement of the hiatus in his career to take care of personal problems, Ilia Topuria He came forward on Monday (15) to add another layer to the story. Through an official statement, the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg) and current UFC lightweight title holder (up to 70,3 kg) accused his ex-wife Giorgina Badell of extortion and slander throughout the separation process.

The post, made on the athlete's official Instagram account, reinforced the need for Topuria to dedicate the next few months to resolving the divorce proceedings. However, the statement also made strong accusations against Giorgina, who allegedly accused the fighter of mistreatment and domestic violence.
“Over the past few months, I have suffered intolerable situations and pressures, including threats of spreading unfounded accusations of mistreatment that would only disappear in exchange for money, but the truth only has one path: the facts. All of them are perfectly documented—audio recordings, messages, testimonies, and videos—and are being made available to the courts to proceed legally not only for attempted extortion, but also for falsifying evidence, theft of money and personal belongings, in addition to all the threats received. I tried to remain silent to protect my children, who are the pillars of my life, but I understand that remaining silent is no longer protecting them: it is allowing the lie to continue growing,” states an excerpt from the statement.

Topuria and Giorgina met before the Georgian fighter rose to stardom in MMA. Together, they have two children: Hugo, born in 2019, and Giorginita, born in 2024. She used to be seen at public events attended by the fighter, including UFC events. The first indication of a separation occurred in October of this year, when both deleted photos of the couple from social media.

They are all perfectly documented — audios, messages, testimonies, and videos — and are being made available to the judicial authorities to proceed legally not only for attempted extortion, but also for falsifying evidence, theft of money and personal belongings, as well as for all the threats received.
I tried to remain silent to protect my children, who are the pillars of my life, but I realized that staying silent is no longer protecting them: it's allowing the lie to continue growing.
Many people have gone through similar situations, and justice, sooner or later, has set things right. Today, it is up to me to step forward and be an example that no one should give in to pressure, manipulation, or fear. Those who know me know that I have never used violence against anyone and that my values have always been respect, discipline, and honesty.
I am taking this step for my family, for myself, and for all the people who need to see that the truth is defended with facts. I have complete faith in justice and place everything I have experienced in its hands.
As you will understand, out of respect for my children and the legal process, I will not make any further statements. I only ask that there be no speculation and that my family's privacy be respected at such a delicate time, something I have always advocated for and for which I am deeply grateful.
My truth doesn't need to be shouted; it just needs to be heard.
