In a video posted to his Instagram account, Weidman explained that the tear occurred during a simple training movement: a left hook. The surprise turned into a nightmare when he realized that the tendon was 95% compromised.

“I didn’t think I could get hurt in boxing. It’s much less aggressive on the body compared to MMA. I tried to keep going, I tried to rest… the pain was unbearable. I couldn’t raise my arm to defend myself. As soon as I increased the speed of the punches, it felt like my arm locked up. I couldn’t raise it to block,” the 41-year-old fighter said on his profile.

The injury interrupts the first major career turnaround for the American. After the technical knockout loss in UFC 310In December 2024, Weidman announced his retirement from MMA.

Anderson Silva will now face Tyron woodley in the preliminary duel, a warm-up for the main event between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua. The fight is scheduled for December 19th at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida (USA).
