MMA fans almost had the chance to see Carlos Prates face off against Arman Tsarukyan , but the UFC prevented the fight from happening. After knocking out Leon Edwards and establishing himself as one of the top names in the welterweight division (up to 77 kg), the Fighting Nerds smoker was invited to demonstrate his skills in a grappling match against the Armenian, a fight that, however, will not materialize.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Carlos Prates revealed that he had agreed to fight Tsarukyan on December 30th. Despite interest from both sides, the UFC decided not to release either fighter, ending negotiations for the fight.

"I almost fought on December 30th, a grappling event invited me to face Tsarukyan in a ground fight, but the UFC didn't allow it," said Carlos Prates.

Close to securing his chance to fight for the belt, Carlos Prates explained that he doesn't want to return to the UFC octagon anytime soon. Known for his hectic life outside the octagon, "The Nightmare" wants to enjoy the end-of-year holidays without sporting commitments and stated that he will only consider new challenges after February.

“I don’t want to fight in January because I want to enjoy my New Year’s party. So maybe after February, that could be fun,” concluded the Fighting Nerds smoker.
