Jon Jones adopts a cautious approach regarding the superfight against Poatan and places the responsibility on the UFC.

MMA legend Jon Jones has an uncertain future in the UFC. In June, the former champion announced his retirement from the sport, but upon learning that Dana White would be holding an event at the White House in Washington, D.C., in 2026, he reversed his decision. Willing to compete in the historic and unique event, the American wants Alex Poatan as his opponent. Now, the athlete has updated the status of the negotiations.

In a Q&A session with fans on his official 'X' account, Jones, when asked if the fight between him and the Brazilian would ever happen, adopted a cautious tone. It's worth noting that the UFC president has already stated he is not in favor of the fight and fears putting the legendary fighter in a position where he might not fulfill his promises, even with a sealed agreement. Therefore, 'Bones', who has already openly expressed interest in fighting at the White House and also has Poatan's 'yes', placed the responsibility on the company.

When Jon Jones was the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg), he should have defended his title against Tom Aspinall , the interim champion. However, the veteran, even with the Englishman and the fans begging for the fight to happen, refused and stressed that he had nothing to gain from the encounter.

During the saga, which lasted for months, Dana White revealed that Jones asked for US$ 30 million (approximately R$160 million at the current exchange rate) to face Aspinall and that an agreement was reached with him. However, the UFC president stated that the MMA legend went back on his word, not keeping his promise, and admitted that he was disappointed with this behavior in the negotiation.
