Alex Poatan raised doubts about Jake Paul 's true intentions in facing him in boxing. Before scheduling the duel against Anthony Joshua, set for December, the YouTuber had mentioned the Brazilian's name as a possible opponent, something that, according to the UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg), doesn't make much sense.
In an interview with 'TMZ', Alex Poatan emphasized that he has an active contract with the UFC and that Jake Paul is fully aware of this limitation. According to the Brazilian, the mention of his name seems to have been more of a self-promotion strategy by the influencer than a concrete fight offer.

“Definitely not. I have a contract with the UFC and he knows that. He knows I can’t go fight. So, I think he’s talking more to promote himself than for any other reason,” said Poatan.
Despite the criticism, Alex Poatan acknowledged that Jake Paul has shown improvement. The Pataxó fighter points out that the American has been performing well, trains constantly, and faces high-level opponents, which would make a potential matchup interesting.
"He's been putting up some good fights. He's been training, facing tough athletes, so it would be a good fight," the Brazilian continued.
Alex Poatan does not rule out competing in boxing.
Although his focus is currently on MMA, Alex Poatan states that he feels comfortable in boxing. According to the Brazilian, his performance in training, combined with his experience in a professional fight, makes him comfortable in boxing.
“I do very well in boxing training, I have a professional boxing match. I think that when you do things you enjoy, you do them well. That's more or less how I feel about boxing,” concluded the light heavyweight champion.
