“The advantage of the fight against Makhachev is that Jack may feel he no longer needs to worry about submissions, which could be bad for others because it means he'll throw more strikes standing up. Maybe he'll come at you straight up and try to hit your face. We're not discouraged by what happened. Bulletproof submission defense is something we can use going forward,” he stated.

Throughout his entire MMA career, Della Maddalena has only been defeated by submission once, in his second professional fight. On that occasion, in May 2016, he was defeated by a rear-naked choke in the first round by his compatriot Darcy Vendy. Since then, he has defeated two opponents with the same technique.
